Produced by bees to feed their young, bee pollen is rich in minerals, amino acids, enzymes, and vitamin B complex, A, C, D, E, and beta-carotene. Bee pollen is collected from male seed flowers, mixed with secretions from the bee, and formed into golden granules that melt in the mouth. Bee pollen is said to be useful in relieving respiratory problems and is believed by many to be an essential additive to the diet during allergy season. Keep in mind, however, that to alleviate allergies, local bee pollen must be purchased. Otherwise the bee pollen will not necessarily have been harvested from the plants in your area that are causing such grief to the sinuses, so while the nutritional benefits will still be present, the level of relief may not be the same.
Bee pollen should be stored in the refrigerator, or even better, the freezer, and can be mixed with smoothies or eaten straight from the jar. A dosage of 1-2 teaspoons a day is recommended, and don’t feel surprised if you feel a burst of energy after its consumption. Bee pollen is reputed to counteract the effects of aging and increase both mental and physical strength.
