Brazil Nut

The Brazil nut is the fruit of a tall South American tree. Each of its large woody fruits carries a dozen to two dozen nuts inside, arranged like the sections of an orange. The individual nuts also have a very hard covering – as anyone who has struggled to crack one can vouch. Brazil nuts are high in phosphorus, protein, and unsaturated oils. They are a concentrated nutrient and should be eaten sparingly and chewed well. Delicious nut butter can be made by grinding the Brazil nut either alone or with cashew nuts; like all pure nut butters, this should be kept refrigerated.
