Fo-ti, also known as he shou wu, a member of the carrot family, is a low-lying herb that grows in the Eastern tropics. Proclaimed, like ginseng, to be a wondrous elixir, it is said to prolong life and vitality. One of its foremost exponents, Li Chung Yun, died in China in 1933 and was believed to have been 256 years old. Fo-ti is usually available in tablet form, and as a powder to be used as a tea.
