Acerola cherry

The acerola cherry, also called Barbados cherry, is a tropical fruit known for its high vitamin C content. In appearance it resembles the common American cherry, but botanically the two are not related. Fantastic claims are made for its vitamin c qualities – some scientists maintain that 6 ounces of acerola cherries yield as much of the precious vitamin as 50 pounds of fresh cabbage juice (cabbage itself is known for its high vitamin C content). At any rate, that this cherry is far higher in natural vitamin C than any other known food is indisputable.

Acerola cherries are often combined with rose hips in vitamin C pills and liquid drops (these are very convenient for infants and young children – and the taste is naturally agreeable).
